It’s the most wonderful time of the year in Houston – and not just because the humidity has finally dropped, and it is easier to find tamales from your favorite vendors. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, there is plenty of festive and socially distant fun still happening in H-Town this holiday season. From visiting the holiday lights to enjoying a seasonal performance, you can still participate in all of your favorite activities, even with the pandemic hitting historic numbers. Tune the news out for a moment and reconnect with your inner Buddy the Elf, with these 4 festive Houston activities that are compliant and a blast, to boot!
Sip Wintery Cocktails at The Chalet Hosted By Rosie Cannonball.
For the winter season, the Rosie Cannonball team is bringing the après ski experience to H-town with its sidewalk chalet, complete with fire pits, shareable eats, with Alpine spirits – hello, hot toddys! The pop-up is open on a walk-in only basis, but it will accept socially distant party reservations of up to 12 people or full buy-outs of the space for your NYE celebrations.
Stroll the Houston Zoo to See the Holiday Lights.
Enjoy some hot cocoa, as you stroll through the beautiful grounds of the Houston Zoo, which somehow becomes even more stunning when its ancient oaks and pathways are illuminated with green-friendly LED lighting. Special attractions include the 125-foot-long Infinity Tunnel of Light, 4-D Enchanted Forest, and “snow” in its Winter Wonderland. You can see it from 5:30 p.m. - 10:30 p.m. every day of the week!
Skate the Ice in the Middle of Downtown at Discovery Green.
The Ice at Discovery Green returns for a season full of open skating right in the heart of Houston’s much-beloved downtown area. Glide against the backdrop of the undeniably beautiful city skyline and try to show everyone on the rink you’re not as much as a native as you appear to be. Go solo, meet-up with a friend, or take your sweetie for a date, and you’ll get a night’s worth of fun for only 15 bucks!
See the Sugar Plum Fairy Performed from the Comfort of Home.
Watching the Houston Ballet’s opulent production of "The Nutcracker" has become a H-Town holiday tradition and one that you can continue from the comfort of home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once you snag tickets to this virtual broadcast, you can enjoy an abridged performance of the magical show, in addition to new works set to classic holiday carols.
